Keep running when the power goes down
Like every grid-connected system, solar on its own shuts down in a power cut. That's a legal safety requirement. With backup-capable inverters and batteries, your site can keep essential circuits running on solar and battery power, safely separated from the grid, until the supply is restored.
- Grid failsA gateway detects the outage and disconnects your site from the ESB network.
- Site goes "island"The inverters form a local supply, powered by the battery and solar panels.
- Essentials keep runningYour backed-up equipment stays on while the grid is down.
- Grid returnsThe gateway checks the supply is stable and reconnects your site automatically.
What it can protect
- Server and comms room, Wi-Fi and phones
- Fire alarm, intruder alarm and emergency lighting
- Refrigeration and critical process equipment
- Heating controls and pumps
- Office and reception area
Plan it from the start
Backup is best specified at the outset, because it affects the inverter model and switchboard design. We size the battery to the circuits you want to protect and how long you want to cover them.
